Being an artist means being open to inspiration, observing, critiquing, listening...allowing yourself to live in your bliss...being in a vulnerable state as time flies by... It's the truest sense of self...pulling from that well deep down inside...I am always challenging myself to do better...The joy of someone purchasing my work is such a thrill, especially when they express how pleased they are with my piece that they purchased...then the frustration and let down when a month or two goes by without a sale...so I rethink my path, recalculate...Tomorrow comes with the chirping of the birds outside my bedroom window. The sun seeping through the slits of my eyelids...wake up, girl, time to create! I grab my touchstone..let me explain...
I have a touchstone..some call it a worry stone, a talisman..a lucky charm...Mine is a well worn pink quartz that slips perfectly into my palm... I pray with it and as a someone who battles a chronic illness daily, I pour my pain into that little gem...I love to make custom jewelry for clients who request a stone for strength, for healing, for peace...keeping my touchstone close has become a ritual for me, a way of adding strength and support to my life. I was first introduced to having a touchstone as a gift from a dear friend as a grounding piece for me when I was going through a very difficult time... the working of my thumb created new slick surfaces on the rough edges as I palmed my worries into my little stone. It has carried me through some very heart wrenching times and still does to this day. I now make jewely power pieces, using gems that radiate a particular strength giving courage where there is fear, sickness, relief, a kind of calm in the storm. I wear a lot of citrine as it is said to strengthen the digestive system, (I have Crohn's disease, an inflammatory bowel disease) so that works for me. It also creates abundance and well, who doesn't want abundance?
I also wear a lot of druzy (love it) as it said to calm nervous energy and is soothing to the wearer. When I am feeling off, I enjoy putting on my druzy cuff...Druzy is called Flame Aura. It attracts and enhances the attributes of the gemstone wearer when paired with copper. Health benefits greatly from copper as it includes proper growth of the body, efficient utilization of iron as well as improved health of connective tissues, hair, and eyes. It is also integral for preventing premature aging and increasing energy production. The Druzy gemstone is said to bump up strength and energy; encourages clarity of mind..wow, now that's an awesome power piece!
So off I go, with my power touchstone stuffed into my pocket, I grab my dark coffee in my "like a boss" mug and set off to my studio...sometimes I just sit there and look. I'm a messy artist in that I love to see the colors, textures and patterns spread naturally on my palette before me. then I begin again...with fresh eyes and a well rested body, I put on some Lenny Kravitz and reach for my tools... it's going to be a great day...
